The Autism Asperger Publishing Company (AAPC) is hosting an autism conference on October 10-11, 2009 in Kansas City, MO and on November 17, 2009 in Springfield, MA. The Autism Asperger Publishing Company (AAPC) is one of the world’s largest publishers of books and other materials about autism spectrum disorders. The publishing company also sponsors several autism-related conferences each year. AAPC has two conferences scheduled for the fall of 2009: Knowledge is Power on October 10-11 and Developing Talents on November 17. Knowledge is Power – October 10-11, 2009The Knowledge is Power autism conference, co-hosted by AAPC and MAAP Services, will be held at the Kansas City, Missouri Marriott Hotel on October 10-11, 2009. Gary Messibov, Ph.D. and Cathy Pratt, Ph.D. will be the keynote speakers at this two day autism conference. Other speakers scheduled to appear include Lara Blanchard, M.A., BCBA, Sherry Moyer, Brenda Smith Myles, Ph.D., and Stephen Shore, Ph.D. The conference will feature a behavioral workshop, a workshop for spouses of individuals on the autism spectrum, the latest research about autism therapy options, and several presentations from autistic individuals. Unlike many other multi-day autism conferences, the Knowledge is Power conference is limited to 240 attendees. This ensures a more personalized experience for all attendees. Registration fees begin at $125 for individuals on the autism spectrum to $350 for a family registration, which includes two adult admissions and one child over the age of 13. Developing Talents – November 17, 2009AAPC and Springfield Technical Community College are hosting an autism conference in Springfield, MA on November 17, 2009. The theme of the conference is Developing Talents: Career Planning, Including Higher Education, for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Temple Grandin, Ph.D., noted author and individual on the autism spectrum, will present the keynote address at this one-day conference. Other presenters include Kate Duffy, M.S., Joy Dykstra, M. Ed., Kris Kozuch, M.Ed, Jane Theirfield Brown Ed. D., Tammy L. Ciak, JD, and Colleen M. Moynihan, M.Ed. A variety of topics about transitions for teens with autism will be covered during the event including a primer on helping students on the autism spectrum take a personal interest and turn it into a career, understanding the ins and outs of postsecondary education options, and entrepreneurism among individuals with an autism spectrum disorder.
